Square with Cistern
The social heart of the village, between water sources and market stories
The Square of the Ancient Village
The square with the cistern has been the urban hub of Tossignano since the Middle Ages. Here the alleys of the castle converged, weekly markets were held, and agricultural goods were exchanged. The central cistern, fed by a rainwater collection system, guaranteed water supply to residents and travelers.
In the eighteenth century, the square was regularized with river pebble paving and the installation of a column for civic flags. After the reconstruction of the village in the second post-war period, the cistern was restored and protected by a wrought iron railing made by local workshops.

Daily Life
The square continues to be the scene of the main events organized by the Pro Loco: summer markets, musical evenings, tastings of typical products, and the lighting of the San Nicolรฒ bonfire. The surrounding shops and arcades host artisan ateliers, small commercial activities, and information points.
An educational panel, located next to the cistern, tells the story of the original hydraulic system and illustrates the links between water, agriculture, and community life.
